Required Data for Vehicle Registration in New Hampshire:

Per NH RSA 261:148 you must provide either your original registration or your renewal letter to renew your vehicle.


Proof of Residency

• Proof of residency is required by the City of Portsmouth and the State of New Hampshire to register vehicles. Only an electric or heat bill will be accepted as proof of residency. All new residents to the City of Portsmouth without an electric or heat bill will need to have either a Resident Affidavit Form or Landlord Residency Affidavit Form filled out before coming to the Tax Office to register vehicles.
  
  
• If you are living with a relative or in a roommate situation, please download the Residency Affidavit Form. This form will need to be filled out by your relative or roommate (the Affiant), who will then need to have their signature notarized (do not sign form until in front of a notary). This form, along with a copy of an electric or heat bill in the Affiant's name, needs to be returned to our office in order to register vehicles.
  
  
  
• If you have a lease, please download the Landlord Residency Affidavit Form. This form will need to be filled out by your landlord, who will need to have the form notarized. The form, along with a copy of either an electric or heat bill in YOUR name, needs to be returned to our office in order to register vehicles.

• Title of vehicle
• Seller's name and address
• Date of purchase
• Odometer reading

• Registration
• Lienholder's name and address
• Date of lien
• Seller's name and address
• Date of sale
• Odometer reading

• Bill of sale (if newly purchased) or out of state registration in registrant's name and one of the following:
• Valid title
  or
  
• Verification of VIN (form 19A)
  or
  
• Valid New Hampshire registration
  Trailers < 3000 lbs. required to produce out of state registration or bill of sale (if newly purchased) or certificate of origin (if new)
